III. Understanding the Lala’s Journey Activities
Now that you have explored the Lala’s Journey book and facilitator’s guide, we’ll do an overview of each of the core activities of Lala’s Journey. For each activity, you will analyze how it helps bring stability after trauma. Each Lala’s Journey group session lasts for about 90 minutes, including these activities. Here, we’re doing just a brief overview as an introduction.
After you go through these introductions to the five activities below, you’ll be asked to notice which activities bring up something that you’d like to consider exploring further for your own emotional healing. The reason for this is that each of us can better support kids in their journey of emotional healing when we have already made the trip ourselves. The activities in the five lessons were originally created for working with adults. Before leading a group of others through these activities, it is recommended that you participate in the adult version. Your facilitation team leader has the information on how to go through this adult “Journey”.
Here is how the overview will work. We’ll use the Core Activities Chart to review the activities. For each activity, you will:
1. Play each video, participating in the activity. Stop the video to finish the activity and then move on to the second activity below.
2. After each activity, complete the Core Activities Chart for that activity, also answering the question in the last column of the chart. (Note: to complete the Stabilization Effect column, you may refer to Module 3: “Healthy Responses.”)
